Up On The Roof Chords
Written by Carole King
Performed by The Drifters

G EmWhen this old world starts getting me down
C Am GAnd people are just too much for me to face
EmI climb way up to the top of the stairs
C Am GAnd all my cares just drift right into space
C On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
G Em C (C-C#) DAnd there the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now
G EmWhen I come home feelin' tired and beat
C Am GI go up where the air is fresh and sweet (up on the roof)
EmI get away from the hustling crowd
C Am GAnd all that rat-race noise down in the street (up on the roof)
COn the roof, the only place I know
G Em C (C-C#) DWhere you just have to wish to make it so
GLet's go up on the roof (up on the roof)
CAt night the stars put on a show for free
G Em C (C-C#) DAnd, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep a-tellin' you
G EmRight smack dab in the middle of town
C Am GI've found a par-a-dise that's trouble-proof (up on the roof)
G EmAnd if this world starts getting you down
C AmThere's room enough for two
G Up on the roof (up on the roof)
Em Up on the roof (up on the roof)
GOh, come on, baby (up on the roof)
EmOh, come on, honey (up on the roof)
(fade) NOTE: Most chord arrangements have a D in place of the Am in this version, but if you listen carefully to the Drifters' 1962 hit (or the Grass Roots cover done a few years later) it's definitely a minor chord. Now I don't mean to imply that my rendition is perfect...the Drifters played it in A-flat.
