Capo 3

C C FA quark is a fundamental constituent of matter
G F CObserved in 1968 through deep electric scatter
C FWe found that protons were more complex than we thought
G F CWe thought they were solid particles but they are not
C FProtons in fact are made up of three separate pieces
G F CIt just gets more confusing as our knowledge increases
C FAnd that is what a quark is; it’s a piece of a proton
G F C And they also make up other things including the neutron
C FUp down strange charm top bottom
G F CIf you don’t know what a quark is it doesn’t matter, you still got em
C FAnd with leptons and bosons unless something’s amiss
G F CThey make up everything that we can see and that we know exists
C C FThings made up of quarks including protons and neutrons
G F CAre composite particles that physicist call hadrons
C FMany times those hadrons are theoretically described
G F CBut most exist for only very brief amounts of time
C C FQuarks have electric charge, colour charge, mass and spin
G F CAnd having colour charge means they exist solely in side
C FOther kinds of particles that cannot exist alone
G F CWhich is why quarks have never been studied on their own
C FUp down strange charm top bottom
G F CIf you don’t know what a quark is it doesn’t matter, you still got em
C FAnd with leptons and bosons unless something’s amiss
G F CThey make up everything that we can see and that we know exists
C C FThese tiny bits of matter are part of almost everything
G F CThere is no unified theory to make it less confusing
C C FBut the fact that we’ve identified that they exist at all
G F CIs so remarkable that I am constantly in awe
C FUp down strange charm top bottom
G F CIf you don’t know what a quark is it doesn’t matter, you still got em
C FAnd with leptons and bosons unless something’s amiss
G F CThey make up everything that we can see and that we know exists
